Food insecurity continues to be a pervasive challenge around the globe. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, one in three people are food insecure and a healthy diet is out of reach for 3 billion people due to rising costs.

Everyone has a role to play in the fight against food insecurity, - animal production and food safety organizations are no exception. Here at Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production, food security is not just our business, but our passion. Here are four ways we are working to combat food insecurity.

1. Efficiency.

When you look at what we do, and the difference it makes to people around the world, it is easy to see how it shapes our work. One way we do this is by increasing efficiency. Our products allow farmers to raise their animals with fewer inputs. Using fewer inputs in animal production can help lower costs and bring people around the globe one step closer to affordable protein.

2. Stability.

Another way to help make food more accessible is to decrease food waste by increasing food stability. Our food safety business aims to help prevent good food from becoming unsafe and to improve shelf life of products. With longer shelf lives, less food gets thrown away and products are more readily available.

3. Productivity.

Keeping animals productive is another key to combat food insecurity. At ARM & HAMMERTM we have a unique portfolio of pre- and probiotics that can be used across the food chain to make animals more productive and resilient. One solution we use from our #ScienceHearted portfolio is CERTILLUSTM Targeted Microbial SolutionsTM, a natural, safe product used to combat challenges in animal productivity.

4. An integrated, global approach.

Food insecurity is not an issue limited to just one region or country. To ensure we are doing our part to combat insecurity, we have been developing robust international teams across the globe and increasing our portfolio of solutions. We have transformed from a primarily North American dairy feed ingredient business into a global, multi-species and multi-channel livestock production and food safety enterprise. We are the only food chain partner integrating diverse technologies for animal and food production systems, providing solutions from on-farm through processing to improve the safety and reliability of the world’s food supply.

Our team of #ScienceHearted innovators is dedicated to helping the global food system be efficient, stable and productive at all stages of production. Whether it’s through innovation and development at The ScienceHearted Center in Waukesha, Wis. or an on-farm solution in China, our dedication to the industry and the global food system remains the same.
