ARM & HAMMER Announces the Availability of MEGAMINE-L Rumen Bypass Lysine in Canada

Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition

PRINCETON, N.J. (April 22, 2013)—Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition announces that MEGAMINE-L® Rumen Bypass Lysine is now available in Canada. MEGAMINE-L delivers a precise, consistent lysine source to help dairy farmers and their nutritionists maximize herd performance by improving component and milk production.

“Lysine is one of the most limiting essential amino acids in dairy cows and must be supplemented in the ration,” explains Dr. Elliot Block, Senior Manager, Technology, Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition. “By reaching the small intestine in ways traditional commodity lysine sources cannot, MEGAMINE-L improves nutrient utilization for greater component and milk production, eliminates overfeeding protein and increases feed efficiency. MEGAMINE-L ensures a consistent level of bypass lysine reaches the cow’s small intestine, removing the guesswork of balancing diets with commodity sources that can be widely variable in lysine content.”

According to on-farm research1 when lysine is brought to 7.25% of metabolizable protein, cow performance and efficiency improves. Results from this trial show cows fed MEGAMINE-L performed significantly better than the control group:
  1. Milk fat increased by 0.08 kg per cow per day
  2. Milk protein was boosted by 0.036 kg per cow per day
  3. Milk production improved by 1.35 kg per cow per day
In addition, due to MEGAMINE-L’s additional energy from its MEGALAC® Rumen Bypass Fat component, the researchers were able to reduce dietary fat levels in the treatment group.

Following the trial, cows in both groups were fed MEGAMINE-L for an additional 16 days. Shortly after the rations for both groups included MEGAMINE-L, cows performed similarly, confirming the timely production benefits delivered by MEGAMINE-L.

”MEGAMINE-L provides benefits for dairy producers, nutritionists and the dairy industry as a whole,” says Dr. Neil Michael, Senior Business Manager at Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition. “A consistent, cost-effective lysine source helps dairy producers reap the additional benefits of improved performance and additional ration flexibility for feeding forages and ingredients. For nutritionists, MEGAMINE-L allows for more effective lysine delivery to the small intestine for absorption. And, a research-proven product that meets cows’ protein needs more precisely is a technological advancement for the dairy industry.”
